Patenting growth fastest in quantum computing, study finds

Finding comes as French quantum company Pasqal bags €100 million from investors, including EU

Patenting has grown faster for quantum computing technologies than for any other technology field in recent years, according to a new global study by the European Patent Office.

The EPO study reported on 25 January that the number of patents for quantum computing increased eight-fold from just over 200 in 2011 to over 1,600 in 2020, while the number of patents in all fields increased by only about 30 per cent, from about 250,000 to about 325,000.
