Willetts: Universities should be included in science department

Ex-science minister argues that universities are “fundamental to the UK’s research effort”

Excluding universities from the newly created Department for Science, Innovation and Technology is “dysfunctional”, David Willetts has said.

The former minister for universities and science was commenting in the wake of a huge shake-up, which saw the nascent department take responsibility for various agencies, funders and advisory bodies that were previously under the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
