Is the row over pay and conditions more important to some than others?

As another Playbook arrives in your inbox, it is as yet unclear how effective (or otherwise) discussions that aim to resolve the industrial dispute over pay and conditions between union representatives and the Universities and Colleges Employers Association have been.

The talks, mediated by the arbitration service Acas, kicked off on Monday. They continued yesterday at Acas headquarters in London, while members of the University and College Union—one of the five unions involved in the negotiations—staged a rally outside.
