Latest figures and trade deal raise hopes of stronger relationship

Indian student enrolments at Australian universities are bouncing back from a severe dip during the pandemic, according to figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

In 2021, the number of higher education students from India commencing their studies in Australia dropped to just under 11,000, compared with 37,000 in 2019. By October 2022, the department’s year-to-date figures showed that nearly 27,000 new Indian students had commenced at Australian universities.
