Report warns of ‘stagnating’ NZ research workforce

National study shows some fields are falling behind internationally due to shrinking staff numbers

New Zealand’s research workforce is lagging behind global trends, with some fields experiencing a downturn in staff numbers, a report has found.

The report, commissioned by the New Zealand ministry of business, innovation and employment and compiled by Dragonfly Consulting, showed that although there was growth in research activity, the country’s workforce in the field is now proportionately smaller than in similar nations.
